Defaced is a experimental video piece using a synthesis of video footage and stop frame animation. This video explores the facial form as our chief means of expression and communication. It questions our cultural significances on perception and sensitivity to judgement. The work utilises the manipulation of a scanner as a bases for animation, which mutates and distorts the facial features. Defaced allows the viewers an insight into the artist’s personal head-space. This is a disturbing emotional piece, dealing with insecurities, aggression, anger and depression. The work is a search for personal identity, as the artist comes to terms with the reality of life, that which is outside family and institutional comfort zones.
